Mapping Shoreline Change in San Pablo Bay

Using a systematic, empirical, and repeatable approach, we mapped the location of the shorelines in San Pablo Bay at three points in time: 1855, 1993, and 2010. We then measured rates of change over the long (1855-1993) and short-term (1993-2010) to identify zones of erosion, progradation, and areas that have remained stable.

Developer Resources at SFEI

Web services provide a standard way to access geo-referenced data online. Although potential uses are numerous, typically web services allow one machine to exchange data with another for timely, automated, and efficient sharing of information. Different service types provide different levels of access to the data, including serving image tiles of the data or the features and attributes themselves.

Regional Data Center

SFEI is one of the state's Regional Data Centers that exchanges water quality data to the California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN). SFEI provides data management and visualization services to the San Francisco Bay-Delta and northern montane regions.

NOAA remote sensing tools and application for evaluating CyanoHABs in California lakes

There are thousands of lakes in the State of California. A number of these lakes are experiencing “harmful algal blooms” associated with cyanobacteria, or CyanoHABs. These blooms impact drinking water supplies and recreational safety, and have caused the deaths of numerous dogs and other domestic animals, as well as wildlife. Due to the number of lakes in the State, it would be a monumental task to conduct water quality monitoring sufficient to assess threats to animal and human health and to understand status and trends.
