SFEI's Regional Data Center contains over 2 million results!

With the recent upload of the Klamath Tribes water quality data (1990-2013) by Randy Turner and the Data Services Team, SFEI's Regional Data Center database now contains over 2 million results! SFEI contributes almost 25% of the data stored in the California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN) and the majority of the state's tissue data.

CD3: New interface and Improved Functionality

CD3 or Contaminant Data Display and Download is a web-based visualization tool for accessing water quality data for the San Francisco Bay-Delta region, including the RMP’s long-term dataset. The tool has been redesigned to leverage SFEI’s other interactive mapping efforts and debuts impressive new functionality, including enhanced spatial querying and generating dynamic statistical summaries and charts.

Other key benefits of the redesigned tool include:

Water Year 2013 Stormwater Data - Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

The SFEI Data Technical Services (DTS) team manages the data for a multi-year stormwater monitoring project within the San Francisco Bay area. For water year 2013, the DTS team managed the field collection data for 6 sites, sampled by 4 agencies, for a total of 23 sampling events throughout water year 2013. The stormwater samples were sent to 6 different laboratories for analysis of water quality parameters, nutrients, trace metals, organic parameters and toxicity and results submitted to SFEI.

Cristina Grosso, Tony Hale, and others from SFEI-ASC participate in the Environmental Data Summit

Cristina Grosso presented EcoAtlas to an audience of policy-makers, scientists, technologists, agency staffers, and private industry consultants on June 5th and 6th. Meanwhile, Tony Hale helped to organize and announce the talks.

Emerging from the Summit will be a whitepaper that will chart a path toward solutions for California's data-sharing challenges. The document will then be shepherded to influential bodies for their review and participation.

Data Templates

Standard templates have been developed for use with the data checkers and to increase data comparability. CEDEN templates are provided in Microsoft Excel format to facilitate submission of data to CEDEN Regional Data Centers and can be obtained at the link: http://www.ceden.org/ceden_datatemplates.shtml/#templates

Accompanying guidance documents are also available at this link.

"What is EcoAtlas and why is it so important?" An interview with Meredith Williams on San Francisco Bay Area radio station KCBS

Meredith Williams discusses the primary benefits of EcoAtlas to the state's body of knowledge about its wetlands. How does EcoAtlas advance our collective understanding about wetland condition? What restoration projects are underway and where are they taking place? Meredith identifies EcoAtlas as a tool instrumental to decision-makers and the general public alike.

Establishment of the NFWF San Francisco Bay Estuary Conservation Fund

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced the establishment of the NFWF San Francisco Bay Estuary Conservation Fund. The fund’s first award goes to the State Coastal Conservancy to support an innovative effort to remove derelict creosote-treated pilings from San Francisco Bay. This will also support a related effort to restore Pacific herring habitat.
