In the afternoon, the recently completed draft PCB synthesis was discussed; a new proposal for conducting margins sampling as part of the RMP S&T program was presented; a summary of 2008 through 2012 SQO monitoring was provided; and details on the Mercury Wetland Workshop and RMP Annual Meeting were discussed.

Workshop on Causes of Sediment Toxicity in California Marine Waters

A one-day workshop was held on November 16, 2012 in Long Beach to assist in the identification of the factors responsible for sediment toxicity in San Francisco Bay. This workshop provided a follow-up to an initial stressor identification workshop (Workshop I) held in April 2010 in Oakland. Twenty-two scientists with expertise in ecology, toxicology, chemistry, geology, and ecological risk assessment participated in the discussions. This document summarizes the key Workshop II activities, discussions, and recommendations and post-workshop comments.

RMP Sources, Pathways, and Loadings Workgroup Meeting

The meeting focused on the review of recent findings from pollutant loads monitoring projects, review of the development of the regional watershed spreadsheet model (RWSM) , and review of proposed pilot studies

  1. Presentation of findings from recent stormwater loads monitoring projects including Mallard Island, Guadalupe River, and Zone 4 Line A
  2. Updates on regional watershed spreadsheet model development: model for development of EMC literature review
  3. An overview of the Multiyear Plan

RMP SC Meeting

Developing Bioanalytical Tools

A growing number of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) are found routinely in permitted discharges and their receiving waters. For the few CECs for which analytical methods exist, these methods are still largely in development and only some are routinely performed by commercial services laboratories.

PBDEs in San Francisco Bay: A Summary Report

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a group of flame retardant additives used in thermoplastics, polyurethane foam, and textiles. These diphenyl ethers possess one to ten bromine atoms; although 209 congeners are possible, only some of these are manufactured or result as degradation products. The three commercial mixtures of PBDEs, each named for the bromination level of its dominant components, are "PentaBDE," "OctaBDE," and "DecaBDE."
