RMP SC Meeting

The first quarter Steering Committee Meeting was held on Tuesday, January 28 from 10:00 to 3:00 pm. During the meeting Meg Sedlak and Lawrence Leung reviewed the status of the 2013 Budget. Meg also presented the RMP's procedure for reviewing publications. The SC then discussed ideas for the 2014 Annual Meeting and RMP Update; Jay reviewed RMP communication products to begin discussion on a new RMP communications strategy. The SC agreed to form a Selenium Strategy Team whose purpose is to fill Se monitoring data gaps.

The fourth quarter TRC meeting will be held on December 12th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Contaminants of Emerging Concern Profiles

The 2013 Pulse of the Bay includes profiles on the chemicals that are the highest on the CEC surveillance radar screen. For each chemical or class of chemicals listed below, a synopsis is provided that describes the properties, uses, sources, environmental fate, occurrence, trends, risks, information gaps, and milestones in management.

 

Mussel Watch CEC Pilot Study

Bivalves are excellent water quality biosentinels; therefore, NOAA established the National Status and Trends Mussel Watch Program in 1986 to monitor contaminant concentrations in mussels. The long-term monitoring program has revealed a general decline in many legacy, bioaccumulative pollutant concentrations over time.
