Clean Watersheds for a Clean Bay

The Clean Watersheds For A Clean Bay project is multi-year project focused on implementing the PCBs and mercury Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) water quality restoration programs, and is the next step in the effort to reduce loading of sediment-bound pollutants to the Bay. Funded by the USEPA, BASMAA, and 6 six of the Bay Area countywide stormwater management agencies, this project is evaluating control options to reduce mass loadings of PCBs, Hg and other pollutants from urban stormwater runoff to the San Francisco Bay. 

RMP Update

The Regional Monitoring Program for Water Quality in San Francisco Bay is an innovative collaboration of the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, the regulated discharger community, and the San Francisco Estuary Institute. It provides water quality regulators with the information they need to manage the Bay effectively. The RMP produces two types of summary reports: The Pulse of the Bay and the RMP Update. The Pulse focuses on Bay water quality and summarizes information from all sources.

North Bay Mercury Biosentinel Monitoring

In 2011-2014 SFEI and UC Davis developed and implemented a multi-species biosentinel monitoring approach as an effective and efficient way of monitoring methylmercury exposure in wetland restoration projects across the North Bay. The monitoring design for this project was developed with input from a Science Advisory Group (SAG) of regional and national experts and input from local stakeholders, in order to build a design that would address questions of management concern.

Green Infill - Clean Stormwater

SFEI collaborated with the San Francisco Estuary Partnership and San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Prevention Program to monitor the effectiveness of Low Impact Design elements constructed at the Gellert Park/Serramonte Main Branch Library in Daly City.

Grassland Bypass Project

This project continues to monitor impacts of the use of a portion of the San Luis Drain for conveyance of agricultural discharge. SFEI collects and disseminates data generated by the participating institutions. Monthly, quarterly, and (coming soon) annual data reports are currently presented on a web page for USBR and public data users. Narrative annual reports (coauthored by the various agencies) and other technical reports (or links to them) could be placed on the site as well in the future. The data generating participants retain ultimate ownership control of the data.

 

Developer Resources at SFEI

Web services provide a standard way to access geo-referenced data online. Although potential uses are numerous, typically web services allow one machine to exchange data with another for timely, automated, and efficient sharing of information. Different service types provide different levels of access to the data, including serving image tiles of the data or the features and attributes themselves.

Regional Data Center

SFEI is one of the state's Regional Data Centers that exchanges water quality data to the California Environmental Data Exchange Network (CEDEN). SFEI provides data management and visualization services to the San Francisco Bay-Delta and northern montane regions.

Contaminant Data Download and Display (CD3)

Contaminant Data Display and Download Tool or CD3  is an innovative visualization tool for accessing water quality data for the San Francisco Bay-Delta and northern montane regions. It is the primary tool for accessing and downloading the San Francisco Bay Regional Monitoring Program’s (RMP) long-term dataset and other project data stored in SFEI's Regional Data Center (RDC).

Selenium in Wastewater

SFEI has been asked to characterize selenium in six wastewater treatment effluent. Facilities will be sampled four times in 2011; twice in the wet season and twice in the dry season.
