Meredith Williams is the Interim Executive Director of the San Francisco Estuary Institute. Her key operational responsibilities include financial planning and reporting, technology oversight, internal communications and overall project management and best practices. She represents SFEI on California Water Quality Monitoring Council workgroups.

Dr. Williams came to SFEI in 2006 with more than fifteen years of leadership in business operations, research, and product development. At companies such as Applied Materials and 3M, she established best practices and led teams to develop and implement innovative tools to advance semiconductor technology.

Williams successfully translated her management, product and technical expertise into significant success at SFEI. She especially enjoys finding collaborative solutions to complex problems. She champions interdisciplinary project management approaches across the organization.  

In the course of her tenure at SFEI, Williams reorganized and empowered the Environmental Data, Information, and Technology (EDIT) team to deliver high quality data and tools on time and on budget. Together they execute on the organizational vision by implementing online tools for aquatic resource management. The EcoAtlas facilitates regulatory agencies’ ability to make effective decisions by providing access to hard science and critical data.

Dr. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a Ph.D. in physics from North Carolina State University.

What is the condition of California streams? The new California Streams and Rivers Portal provides information on the health of public waterways and includes interactive graphics, maps, and monitoring data that focus on the location extent, and health of the State’s streams and rivers. This new portal displays data from the State's Data Exchange Network (CEDEN) and can be found at www.CaWaterQuality.net, under the Ecosystem Health tab.
