The Resilient Landscapes (RL) team delivered a number of presentations during the last quarter highlighting recent accomplishments and initiatives.

At the Salmonid Restoration Federation conference in March, Senior Scientist Robin Grossinger presented on the use of spatial tools for determining salmonid habitat condition, while Geomorphologist Scott Dusterhoff co-convened a session on southern and central California steelhead habitat rehabilitation.

In May, Scott Dusterhoff delivered a presentation at the Society for Ecological Restoration (SERCAL) conference on Flood Control 2.0, an initiative to restore San Francisco bayland habitat using innovative approaches to flood control channel design and management. Scott Dusterhoff and Robin Grossinger also presented on Flood Control 2.0 at the Bay Area Ecosystems Climate Change Consortium (BAECCC) meeting in June, presenting preliminary findings and soliciting input about the tools that will be most useful for implementing the new flood control approach around San Francisco Bay.

At the annual Orange County Water Summitt in May, Robin Grossinger presented a 3-D animation of the historical Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, created in partnership with 34 North, Inc., and discussed contemporary management challenges and opportunities for the Delta.

At the Headwaters to Ocean (H20) conference in May, Associate Environmental Scientist Erin Beller gave a presentation on the historical ecology of northern San Diego County’s coastal lagoons, and Robin Grossinger presented on landscape restoration in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Erin Beller also delivered a presentation on the historical ecology of intermittent California rivers at the Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting in May.

Program Manager Ruth Askevold delivered the commencement address at the San Francisco State University Geography Department graduation in May, and presented on “Finding Clues on the Map: Stories about Forgotten Landscapes” at the GIS Education Center’s cARTography GeoMixer in June.

Associate Environmental Scientist Chuck Striplen and Environmental Analyst Sean Baumgarten delivered a presentation to the Sonoma County Water Agency in May on historical changes in channel alignment along the Laguna de Santa Rosa and Mark West Creek.

Associate Environmental Scientist Julie Beagle delivered a presentation to the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board Based on her Masters Thesis and recently published article on using Anticipatory Management to help develop watershed management tools.
